Australian Company To Build Large Solar Plant In AZ On State Land

Read an article here form Insidetucsonbusiness.com that announces that an Australian based solar firm plans to build a large and unique solar power tower plant (the tower will be almost 2,600 feet tall) that could potentially power 100,000 homes. The plant will be located on state owned land in Western Arizona in rural La Paz County near Quartsite. Construction is estimated to begin in 2012.

Scottsdale AZ Seeking To Buy More Land For Preserve

View an article on the Arizona Republic web site that discusses the City of Scottsdale plans to apply for grants to help fund the purchase of 4,400 acres of land for its unique McDowell Sonoran Preserve. The land is undeveloped state trust land and is located in North Scottsdale. The city plans to leave the land (which includes varied high desert terrain and mountains) in its natural state with eventual plans to develop new hiking and recreational trails on it. The preserve currently is 17,000 acres and includes most of Scottsdale signature mountain range the McDowell Mountains. Read more here.

Read a post on the Arizona Republic web site that discusses the Arizona Game and Fish Commission recent decision to open new hunting areas on undeveloped land in the outlying Phoenix metro area including Buckeye and Peoria. The article notes that the The Game and Fish department were able to create new hunting boundaries after a new law pased that removed the power that municipalities and counties had tp prohibit hunting in their jurisdictions. The article also notes however that in addition to opening some land to hunting, the commission also outlawed all types of hunting in most of the metro Phoenix.
